Remove the background for an ID or passport photo

Many application portals want a plain backdrop, not a living-room wall. Cut the portrait out locally, then place it on white or keep it transparent — your photo is not uploaded to LocalPix.

Use this when the form asks for a head-and-shoulders photo on a plain background and you do not want to send the original to a cutout website. LocalPix Remove background runs ormbg (Apache-2.0) in the tab and downloads a transparent PNG. Passport photo is only a route placeholder in this MVP — it does not crop to a country’s millimetre spec. Do the cutout now; measure and crop to the printed size the form actually names.

When to open which page

White background vs transparent PNG

Steps (local, 0-byte upload)

  1. Read the form’s background and file-type rules before you edit.
  2. Open Remove background. Optional: follow How to self-prove 0-byte upload or Verify local with DevTools Network open.
  3. Choose the portrait from disk. ormbg weights download only after you run — that is model delivery, not your photo leaving the device.
  4. Download the transparent PNG (local blob: URL).
  5. If the portal wants white, composite locally, then crop to the stated pixel size. If the file is still over the portal’s KB cap, use Compress to KB on the flattened image.

FAQ

Does my ID photo leave the device?

No. Processing runs in your browser with ormbg. Your image bytes are not uploaded to LocalPix servers. Prove it with Verify local or the homepage section How to self-prove 0-byte upload.

White or transparent?

The tool outputs a transparent PNG. Composite onto the colour the form names — often white — before you upload to a portal that rejects alpha.

Will passport-photo crop it to the official size?

Not yet. Passport photo is a placeholder. Crop to the pixel size printed on the form after the cutout.
